Vets edge out
seniors for bragging rights -
Bournemouth’s V35 team triumphed over the senior
men for the second consecutive year at the Christchurch 10k, but both teams
won their respective competitions in a day full of more year and lifetime
bests.Steve Way (pictured), Ian White and Mark Hargreaves finished with a points total of 17, just two better than Jon Sharkey, Ian Habgood and Robin Copestick on 19, although on cumulative time the seniors salvaged some pride with a 21 second advantage.
Steve Way ran each of his first five miles to the second before a frantic last mile which saw him narrowly fend off the fast finishing Nathan Shrubb for the race win. Their time was 31:50 and Jon Sharkey covered the last 1.2 miles at 4:57 per mile pace to ensure a first sub 32 run having never previously run sub 33. Ian Habgood took nearly thirty seconds from his previous best clocking 32:28.
Ian White was next in, less than fifty seconds from his personal best despite a troubled year and Mark Hargreaves rounded off the vets team in 34:14 narrowly ahead of Rob Standley.
Robin Copestick made it seven BAC in the top twelve with his fastest 10k of the year while Tony Chutter and a PB for Graeme Miller made it nine in the top seventeen (ten if you include Simon Munro in his farewell appearance for Royal Manor of Portland) while Mike Cowham continued his improvement with another personal best.
