Report and results from the Sportshall league, county and south west championships

*16/2/09 Winter Sports Hall League 08/09 - For those of you who have not been involved in the Sportshall League this is a competition for U11, U13 & U15 club athletes, field events are adapted for indoor competition with standing long & Triple Jump, Vertical Jump and Speed Bounce. The track events comprise of 2 lap, 4 lap & 6 lap races, each race starts in the middle of the sportshall and each lap comprises of 2 lengths of the sportshall.

The matches were at Candford School and Portland Leisure Centre and provided the chance for our younger athletes to experience competition which prepares them for the coming outdoor season. This year we had saw some promising new talent with Sarah Smith and Maria Hollington in the U11 girls and for the boys Joseph Rutherford, Nathan Legg & Taylor Leonard all displayed signs of great things to come.

Our experienced Pair of Nicholas Hunt & Declan Toth continued to dominate all of the events they entered and will be moving up to U15 competition next year. In the U15's we had Jordan Knox winning for the boys and Katrina White in 3rd place against some very strong competition in the girls section.

In January we had the DCAA County Championships and some some excellent performances from our athletes:

Laura Hutton 1st 6 lap
Declan Toth 1st Speed Bounce & 2 lap
Nicholas Hunt 1st Shot putt (11.96m)
Taylor Leonard 1st Standing Triple Jump
Joseph Rutherford 2nd Long Jump

In the four lap final we had a clean sweep with all three places going to BAC athletes with Nicholas Hunt leading home Joseph Rutherford and Taylor Leonard.

The day was rounded off with another convincing win for the U13 boys 2 lap relay comprising of Nicholas, Declan, Joseph & Luke. BAC U13 relay team were unbeaten throughout this seasons competition and gave some of the younger boys a chance to mix with Nicholas and Declan and they showed they can emulate their performances in the future.

Following the County Champs came the South West Regional Final in Torbay where BAC athletes put in the following performances in the U13 competition:

Laura Hutton 1st 6 lap
Nicholas Hunt 1st Shot Putt (12.21m) & 4th in the 2 lap
Declan Toth 1st 6 lap & 1st Speed Bounce
Daniel Cox 4th Shot Putt (8.52m)
Omar Manneh 2nd High Jump (1.45)

In the U15 competition Katrina White contributed 77 points and Jordan Knox 136 points towards the Dorset team score.

Well done to all of the our athletes for performing well in this years Sportshall competition.

Team Managers Wanted

We have vacancies for two Team Manager positions:

Mens 'B' Team

NJAL Team, this is a joint team with Poole Runners and will have a PR team manager so should be easier to manage.

Without Team Managers we cannot run these teams so please come forward if you can help, please let a committee member know if you are prepare to take one of these posts.
