Sainsbury's vouchers, a crate of beer, BAC all set for the Christmas party!

*16/11/09 Another win for BAC - Bournemouth AC packed seven runners into the top nineteen places at the Wimborne Ten as the Dorset champions gave a demonstration of team strength in claiming a ninth win from eleven league races.

The squad also swept the board with the men’s county championship medals whilst Tony Chutter and Janie Chapman won county Bronze in the veteran category.

A group of around ten runners emerged from the 600 strong field to head the bunch at one mile. At this point Bournemouth trio Jon Sharkey, Steve Way and Ian Habgood seized control setting a 5:30 per mile tempo whittling the group down to five by three miles.

By halfway it was down to four and at the Shapwick turn two minutes later it was Sharkey who injected a change of pace that only Steve Way, much to his own surprise, could respond to. Now running ten seconds a mile faster the pair worked together, reeling off the miles like clockwork as Paul Adams and Ian Habgood fell from contention. Working for time rather than the race win, the pair emerged together at the top of the final hill and emphasised Bournemouth’s team spirit crossing the line side by side.

Steve Way’s 54:09 may have been below his best form, but was made impressive after a month of nursing niggling glute and hamstring injuries. Ian Habgood, far from fading, maintained the early pace to finish fourth in a new best of 54:58. Robin Copestick and Ian White both set year bests to ensure Dorset League honours while Graeme Miller (PB) and Tony Chutter were both inside the top twenty.

Janie Chapman was a Dorset Bronze winner in the women’s Masters while Chris Birch and Dave Parsons both claimed top three M60 placings. Club championship scores will be added in due course. Pictures from the morning are available on Facebook.
