Bournemouth AC News - National Road RelaysHOME Bournemouth setting new marks at national level*21/10/09 BAC third most improved in the country - Bournemouth AC enjoyed a much improved national road relays performance from 12 months ago at Sutton Park. The 2009 sextet finished 18 places higher than last year five minutes and 19 seconds faster - becoming the third most improved team in the country behind Derby and Telford.A clocking of 1:56:23 was achieved without five runners who would have improved the time further showing the depth that's building within the squad. Bournemouth also finished as the second team from the South West region behind Bristol. Steve Way kicked off proceedings with the club's fastest leg of the day. Suffering from a niggling glute problem his performance was slightly below that of the qualifier, but still managed to five minute a mile his way round to an 18:13. Jon Sharkey struggled up the early hill, but recovered to run under 16 minutes for the final 5k before handing over to Ian Habgood. In contrast, Ian flew up the first hill and actually ran faster than Jon throughout, but a mix-up at the start of his leg cost a handful of seconds and meant he recorded an 18:55 to Jon's 18:54. Out of form Rob McTaggart cemented the club's position with a 19:41 while Ian White stepped up to the plate late on with a 20:14 achieved with no race sharpness going into the contest. Robin Copestick anchored the team home and his 20:26 made him the most improved BAC runner from the southern qualifiers.
