That's The Way To Do It
*5/5/08 Summer Time Trials - Steven Way debuted in style as the 2008 summer time trial series kicked off in beautiful conditions at Upton Park.

Willard Chinhanhu had gracefully eased into the lead on the second lap and thought victory was sewn up. But a brave fightback from Way nearly snatched victory.

Chinhanhu almost succumbed to second place as Way edged ahead just five metres from the line before the Poole Runner reacted in the narrowest of finishes; the type usually reserved for the 100m.

The pair both clocked 18:29 leaving the rest of the field trailing in their wake.

Mark Hargreaves brought home the best of the rest in his first competitive outing since before Christmas. Hargreaves registered an 18:58 'marker in the sand' for third place and winning vet.

Jemma Bates was 6th senior female in 28:11.

In the Great West run Cherry Sheffrin ran 1:45:42 in the Exeter based Half Marathon to slightly improve her club championship rating.

The Track & Field team made a winning return to Southern Men's Division One making them early contenders for a place in the National League. Although understrengthed, external factors effect all clubs and the team's depth proved sufficient to beat Yeovil/Wells AC, Reading, Windsor & Eaton and Woking.

Athlete of the match Mike Hammacott ran the 800m before setting a 1500 PB (approx 4:15) just minutes before claiming a steeplechase PB (approx 10:35) in the first outing of the season. He's one to be feared in the Poole 10k where club members will have to compete for scoring berths.

The next match is on Saturday May 17th in Mile End, London. There are 5000m flat and 3000m Steeplechase places up for grabs for any endurance athletes wishing for a blast on the track. Transport is provided by the club.
