*1/7/07 BAC Continue Winning Streak - Wells City Harrier Carl Morris marked his domination of the Portland ten mile road race recording a fifth straight victory.

Morris became Dorset ten mile champion with a cat and mouse race against Bournemouth AC’s wily veteran Mark Hargreaves. Cross winds for much of the course resulted in a steady start and a leading pack of eleven runners cautiously approached the first two miles.

Morris (55:47) and Hargreaves (56:19) edged clear on the first of the big climbs to battle out the race win. Hargreaves is now Dorset Masters champion in two of the four road races with the half and full Marathons to follow. The New Forest Marathon entrant is on course to claim a Masters Grand Slam; a feat last accomplished by Mark himself five years ago.

Further down the field veterans Andy Clements (Poole AC, 57:46) and Mike Grist (Poole Runners, 59:03) battled it out for the Masters Silver medal position. Clements took charge on the climb to the finish and picked up Senior Bronze in the process.

Poole Runners were dominant in the age group prizes. Mike Grist (40-44), Dave Cartwright (55-59), Geoff Scott (60-64) and Rex Legge (65-69) were all victorious.

Bournemouth AC retained the Echo sponsored team trophy packing four runners into the top fourteen positions. In the women’s competition, local club Egdon Heath Harriers were crowned champions.

Individually, it was another win for Karen Aus Der Fuenten (Littledown Harriers, 1:07:12). Her fifth Dorset League win of the year places her on the verge of a first ever League crown.

Stephanie Slade (Egdon Heath Harriers, 1:07:27) pushed the Littledown runner all the way in a closely contested finish while former Dorset League Champion Dawn Critchell (Holmfirth Harriers 1:09:05) was third..
2 Mark Hargreaves 56:19, 6 Jon Sharkey 59:10, 12 Mike Hoey 61:51, 14 Nick Kenchington 62:37, 30 Mike Farrell 66:21, 68 Ian Graham 72:42.
