New Forest Marathon
Grand Slam Mark Takes National Title - Bournemouth AC star Mark Hargreaves returned to the Marathon distance in style by claiming a dominant New Forest victory.

Running his first Marathon in over three years, Hargreaves completed the testing course in 2:38:30. He clocked a winning margin of over ten minutes from Viesters Dude (Crawley AC 2:49:26).

The forty-seven year old saved his best efforts for later in the race running a negative split despite an undulating eight mile run-in. The result gave Mark his first National title of 2007 winning the incorporated British Masters Marathon Championship.

Hargreaves’ second New Forest win also saw him take double gold in the County Marathon Championships. His second senior title of the year was backed up by completing a Grand Slam of road Masters titles for 2007.

Further down the field Christchurch Runners’ George Dayantis (6th, 2:53:43) edged out Poole Runners’ James Baulch (9th, 2:56:06) for silver. The Christchurch runner prevailed over the closing stages and also took Masters silver winning his club’s first county medal this decade.

Baulch lowered his personal best by twenty-eight minutes taking senior bronze while the masters medal went to Paul Rose (Yeovil Running Club 2:58:59) in eleventh.

In the women’s race Dorset Doddlers’ Lynda Faulkner took gold in equally impressive circumstances. The overall women’s race winner beat silver medalist Jenny Moloney of Royal Manor Portland (11th, 3:38:11).

Littledown Harriers’ Heather Khoshnevis (25th, 3:49:10) won her third consecutive County Marathon medal with bronze. All three women took respective masters medals.

Sixty-nine year old Peter Gaze was BAC's other entrant running 4:28:21.
