Report and results from the 2009 London Marathon*27/4/09 Mixed fortunes in capital outing - For Bournemouth this year it was a case of disrupted training playing havoc to race times – unless your name was S J Way. Steve
J Way set out with a pre-race target of 2:24:59 and ran….. 2:25:00. He was
28th overall, 13th Brit and slashed ten minutes from a personal best set
just five and a half months ago.Simon J Way executed his sub 3:15 debut marathon plan to perfection. Behind on pace during a congested first three miles, Simon remained patient and slowly clawed the time back before working hard to hold on in the closing stages finishing in 3:13:40. Phil Mosley (2:52), Andrew Jennings (3:19), Mark Hargreaves (3:26) and Paul Consani (3:54) all opted to start – and finish – despite some woeful luck in the weeks leading up to race day. Robin Copestick’s 2:56:07 ensured that along with Steve and Phil the team once again finished as the highest placed from Dorset clubs although the cumulative time on which London is based did not match 2008’s target. Chris Francis, who joined the club after entering London, may have run 3:28:18, but there is no confirmation as yet that it was the same runner although the time suggests it might be. In Madrid Ian Graham put his calf problems to one side to get the better of Juan Pedro Lopez Cascante. JP maintains his record of having completed every single Madrid Marathon, but lost out to Ian by 38 seconds running 3:22:09 to 3:21:31. Ian’s time was enough to finish as 6th I-M, which is presumably Spanish for M60. |
