Middle distance runners find inspiration from Olympic star

Celebrity Masterchef contestant and Olympic medal-winning 400m runner Iwan
Thomas was at Kings Park track, Bournemouth, on the evening of 10 August
2009, to race a relay team of youngsters he is training against BAC athletes
of the same or similar age. This was part of a venture which is being televised for Channel 4's 'Track & Field Show' which can be seen on Sunday mornings at 8.30 pm. Although the race at Kings Park wasn't filmed, a BAC team, put together by Julie Davies, took part in a relay race at Winchester, which was filmed for transmission on the programme.
At Kings Park, BAC produced two teams for the 5 x 400 relay, the first of which, anchored by Fergus O'Reilly, won the race (the second team - something of a 'scratch' team - came third behind Iwan's team, but contributed a great deal to the entertainment!).
Throughout the evening, Iwan could not have been more charming, chatting, as he did, to one and all, and posing willingly for photographs, and signing autographs. We were, of course, very pleased that Iwan chose to bring his team to Bournemouth, but he, too, expressed his thanks to BAC for what he said was a valuable training exercise for his boys.
