Hargreaves Makes His Mark
*17/11/08 The Inaugural BAC Club championship - While no fewer than ten runners improved their club championship rankings at the final weekend of asking at Wimborne, Mark Hargreaves enjoyed a solid run at the British Masters home countries cross country International (try saying that with you're mouth full!)

Hargreaves was selected as a travelling reserve despite spending much of 2008 on the sidelines or racing back to  some level of fitness. He ran the open race in Swansea and won the M45 section finishing sixth overall.

And while runners were taking advantage of the last chance to improve ten mile rankings, Hargreaves' score from a hilly Portland Ten was never seriously threatened. The veteran takes two of the three titles with a staggering 90%+ score in his best 10k; a 33:09 at the popular Christmas pudding 10k in Christchurch.

The Half Marathon was a much closer contest. Mark's winning margin in the 10k was 3.8%, the sort of margin that covered the top seven over 13.1 miles. In the end it was life member John Boyes who took the spoils with a 79:50 at Annecy just days before his fiftieth birthday.

A week before flying to Australia Stu Fox set a new mark of 55:28 to record the club's fastest ten mile time of the year.

The Wimborne Ten results saw another flurry of additions including a twenty minute plus PB from Steve Way!! Split times in longer races and training don't count!!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the introduction of a club championship and one which provides a different angle to progress on just finishing times and positions. It'll continue for 2008/2009 over the same three distances. There are plenty of races in Dorset and beyond to achieve those scores and aim to go one better than this year.

The club championship provisional final table. If there are any results to add please let me know by Thursday November 20th. A few DOBs are also needed to complete the table.
