Report and results from the Dorset County Marathon*5/5/09 Inaugural race is a hit - Gillingham Trotters brought marathon running back to Dorset in style with an excellently organised race that wound through a number of villages in the north of the county, starting and finishing in Sturminster Newton.Mike Jordan rolled back a few years and ran his quickest marathon since London in 2004 on the rolling and occasionally hilly terrain. Entering the race in the winter with a sub four hour target, Mike ran over 15 minutes faster getting under 3:45 thanks to a strong final push on the 3k 'finishing straight'. Mike Hoey crept under three and a half hours. Although that sort of time is usually reserved for the end of an iron man for Mike, he achieved his performance on an average of just 10 miles a week. Jon Sharkey led the team home ensuring a sub 2:45 clocking having gone through 10k in nearly 40 minutes in a lead group of four runners. Jon and second claim BAC member John Broom upped the pace at eight miles and ran together until beyond 16 miles before a lonely pursuit of the finishing line. Jon, Mike and Mike were second team on the day. Congratulations to Wimborne whose team was led home by Jerry Shield running his second sub three hour marathon in just one week.
