Report and results from the Dorset County Half Marathon Championships

*7/2/09 BAC Clean Sweep - Bournemouth AC filled the podium with all three men’s medals in the 2009 Dorset Half Marathon Championships at Blackmore Vale.

Four club members hit the front early on making up a group of six with Somerset’s Doug Hall and Tristan Cooper. While a clean sweep of medals was assured by the half way point, their allocation proved a much closer affair.

By eight miles four became three with Jon Sharkey, Steve Way and Ian Habgood left to contest the podium positions. Sharkey and Way moved clear by nine miles and traded the pace setting towards the business end of the race. Shortly after ten miles Sharkey’s decisive move opened up a ten second gap that he held on to despite the pair dropping nearly a minute in the final mile and a quarter up a vicious hill into the wind.

Ian Habgood celebrated his first county medal of any colour with Bronze while Steve Way recorded his highest position to date with Silver. Jon Sharkey’s Gold was his first county championship from an individual road race.

Ian Graham’s 92:52 puts him in the top ten for the M60 UK Half Marathon rankings for 2009 while his club championship ranking sees him top the age related league table.

See below for an overhead course map from the Blackmore Vale half as produced by Steve Way’s Garmin 405.
