Marathon boys enjoy tough run out on the Dorset hills

*8/2/10 Yellows take team win at Bishops Caundle - Steve Way and Jon Sharkey shot to first and second in the South West of England 2010 Half Marathon rankings (yes, all 38 days of it!) as the clubs marathon boys used Blackmore Vale for London preparation.

Having recorded 526 training miles in January Steve approached the race in good form and time trialled his way to a lonely 69:27, agonisingly missing out on pocketing £100 for the course record.

Jon Sharkey returned from injury to finish second and show glimpses of his pre-Christmas form negative splitting a 73:06. Ian Habgood, fourth, paid the price for a gruellingly quick sixteen mile training run on Friday although was still a minute faster than 2009.

Ian White and Simon Munro ensured five BAC runners in the top six Dorset positions giving the squad a resounding victory; the clubs 27th in 50 Dorset League races under Sharkey’s captaincy.

Simon Way set himself a new personal best while Tony Chutter, Nick Kenchington, Chris Birch gave the club nine of the first 35 finishers.

In the women’s Steph Slade debuted for BAC and ran her fastest Half Marathon for eighteen months while Janie Chapman powered up the final hill to set a personal best as the pair were first and second Dorset finishers.

Results from this race are now in the club championship while a photo album from the race can be found on Facebook.

Rob McTaggart was the club's sole contestant in the Chichester 10k and recorded performance below his usual standards of more than 34 minutes having not yet recovered from his 15k jaunt round Parliament Hill in last weekend's southern cross country.
