Debutants fire BAC to New Year's Day Win

*4/1/10 Team win at Broadstone kicks off 2010 for BAC - Bournemouth AC needed two debutants in the scoring five at the Broadstone Quarter Marathon to kick off the Dorset League title defence with a win.

Graeme Miller and Simon Munro, signed first claim from Littledown Harriers and Royal Manor of Portland respectively, both ran personal bests for the distance while Simon won his age group in a category he has every chance of winning in this year's Dorset League.

Steve Way and Ian White led the yellow charge all be it trailing in the wake of last year's winner, Huw Evans, from Tonbridge AC. Steve, who turned up not convinced he would run at all, was badgered into entering by Ian and ran away from him in the final lap to claim second overall.

Chris Birch was first over sixty while Janie Chapman was second overall in the ladies in her first league race being able to score club points.

Finally, spare a thought for Rob McTaggart. Although he's the marmite in a BAC sandwich, Tag was determined to do his bit for the team despite calling it a night at 6am having consumed copious levels of New Year alcohol. Given his DNF in the 2007 Stur Half and 216th finish in the 2006 Stickler, a valiant effort to finish BAC's seventh scorer certainly earned his post race 'chicken'.
