Dorset League season finishes on a high

*23/11/09 Another win for BAC - Bournemouth AC enjoyed a win on home soil at the Boscombe 10k in the final Dorset League race of 2009.

Although the team secured the league title back in August, individual placings were still up for grabs going into the final race. Ian Graham had done enough to secure the M60 crown the week before at Wimborne while Robin Copestick and Ian White took respective M30 and M35 categories.

For the second year in a row, BAC also completed a clean sweep of the men’s podium with Jon Sharkey and Ian White being joined by Ian Habgood who enjoyed his highest finish to date. With two race wins and ten top five finishes Habgood was without doubt the club’s most consistent runner in the league this year.

At the race itself, fighting a technical course and gale force winds the BAC trio of Sharkey, White and Copestick were all in the top seven to claim yet more supplies for the BAC Christmas party (artists impression pictured!). It’s Sunday 13 December after the Christmas 10k, don’t miss out! Further back, Tony Chutter and Simon Hunt fared well in the veteran categories to bring home the Dorset League five-to-score team.

Janie Chapman moved from fourth overall in 2008 to second in the 2009 Dorset League standings whilst also taking the W40 category. Some of the club’s newest members came away from Boscombe with personal bests although results are not currently available. These will be rounded up in a club championship update once published.
