BOURNEMOUTH AC ROAD AND DISTANCE RUNNING INFORMATION Here is a a report from the 2008 Boscombe 10k. Click here to go back to our main index page.
Double Dorset Honours For Bournemouth It's the first time Bournemouth has enjoyed a male and female winner in the same year with Jon Sharkey retaining his 2007 title through consistent rather than dominating performances. And the individual honours didn't end there. John Broom and Ian White were second and third completing a Bournemouth clean sweep on the male podium. Tony Chutter was seventh overall and third veteran while Ian Graham won the M60 category. And another full team at Boscombe made it 37 consecutive league races of fielding full teams; a current run exceeding that of any other club. In the team standings one race win was the difference for the third straight year. Congratulations must go to Poole Runners for prevailing in an exciting season, where the competition helped athletes from both clubs set new PBs throughout the year. After all is said and done, that can only be a positive end result. How the League
panned out: Dominating performances in the Rotary Quarter and Portland Ten put a different slant on proceedings while two other races epitomised the ebb and flow of 2008. In the Poole 10k Willard Chinhanhu and George Miller propelled Poole Runners to the perfect start, but a solid team performance snatched victory for Bournemouth. At the Sturminster Half roles were reversed. Willard and George once again set Poole on their way and with both teams lacking key runners, the race was anyone's. By the fourth scorer Bournemouth had moved in front, but this time it was Poole whose fifth runner secured victory. In the final quarter of the season a win at Littledown for Bournemouth was seen and raised by Poole wins at Wimborne and Boscombe. With both Mark Hargreaves and Stu Fox unavailable late on, it was always going to be difficult, but credit where it's due and we look forward to an equally competitive year in 2009. Boscombe results:
