Bournemouth AC News - South of England road relaysHOME Yellow army tear up MOD route at Aldershot*28/9/09 Batongate returns as this year it's Phil who asks the question! - Bournemouth AC cruised into the national road relays with another solid team performance at Aldershot in the Southern’s. A time of 1:58:57 for 15th place was the club’s best performance for over a decade. Picking a stand out performance is always difficult when the team performs
strongly. Steve Way (18:36) beat Poole Runners’ Williard Chinhanhu in a head
to head battle in leg one while Robin Copestick returned from injury
stepping into late absentee Stu Fox’s shoes and performed admirably under
pressure. On a hot afternoon, Steve judged his run better than most and rose from 20th to 9th over the second half giving Jon Sharkey a mere 13 second advantage over the faster George Miller. Based on the Littledown Five, George would have caught Jon 2k into the 6k loop and given Poole Runners a 23 second advantage over Bournemouth into leg three. The BAC captain had other ideas and pulled out a performance giving Robin Copestick a two second lead over frequent training partner James Baulch. The pair worked together over the first lap and replacing Stu late in the day, Robin knew he needed to play his part for a sub two hour performance. Showing glimpses of his 2006 form, Robin tore over 30 seconds from James in the second lap setting up the squad for a high finish. Ian Habgood gained four places in the fourth leg and set out with Jon’s 19:26 in mind. Given that it was Ian’s Aldershot debut and he didn’t have a pacy Poole Runner reeling him in, a time of 19:30 could arguably be viewed as a better performance all be it four seconds slower. Phil Mosley has not been training consistently since getting a new job in Bath although nobody would have guessed as he did his bit for the club narrowly missing the 20 minute mark. Although Rob McTaggart flattered to deceive in the anchor, his fast finish can always be relied upon. The next five clubs all finished less than 30 seconds after Tag crossed the line showing the importance of finishing these events with a good kick.
